Piper Retrofractum is a robust climbing plant with winding branches. Has leaves with short petiole, rather coriaceous, 12.5-18 cm long, oblong, oval or lanceolate, acuminate, the base is uneven round, heart-shaped. Fruity spines 2.5-5 cm long, suberect, conical-cylindrical, forming a pulpy cone containing numerous fruits.

Chemical composition – It contains volatile oil, piperine, piperidine, piperettine, chavicine, pellitorine, guineensine, pipercide, retrofractamide A, dipiperamide D and E (bisalkaloide) nigramide AS (amide dimers).

Properties – Digestive, stimulates metabolism, hepatoprotective, gastroprotective, promotes bile and gastric secretion.
