Piper cubeba

Piper Cubeba is a tropical climbing plant, stem is round, gray-green in color. The flowers are white and small; are grouped into an aggregate form of a finger, blooming along their central axis. The fruits are brown. Fruits are similar to those of black cardamom, are older and 30 mm in diameter. They contain many small seeds in the interior of 3-4 mm diameter. Seeds are round, with a wrinkled surface, brown to black. Cubeb pepper berries have a strong taste.

Chimical composition – Contains essential oil consisting of monoterpenes (sabinene 50%, α-thujene, and Carene) and sesquiterpene (caryophyllene, copaene, α- and cubeben β-, δ-cadinene, germacren), oxides of 1.4 and 1, 8-cineole and cubebol alcohol. Cubeben, cubebin, cubeba acid resin. Contains two lignans and lignan hinokinin cubebin and bis-epoxy (-) sesamine, and two amides and piplartine pellitorine.

Properties – Antibacterial, diuretic, aphrodisiac, urinary and prostate protector, digestive, antiviral.
