Hair Loss

REASONS AND TREATMENT

Hair Loss

Hair loss appears on the list problems faced by many people. It appears normal if around 100 hairs per day are lost. But it may be a conspicuous problem for women and men when it becomes excessive. Hair loss can have a number of causes both external and internal and if not treated in time, it can have negative consequences both in terms of physically and mentally, most often physical consequences.
Hair loss can be caused by many factors, from various diseases, genetic inheritance, an unbalanced diet system to stress, fatigue or hormonal imbalances. Hair loss can be genetic and sometimes permanent (androgenetic alopecia) or temporary and non-genetic (Telogen effluvium) due to deficient nutrition, stress, fatigue, as a result of some disease or just because of deficient scalp care. It is also important to note that hair loss can have major internal causes, most often hormonal.

The causes of hair loss are determined after consultation provided by dermatologist. It is important to consult a dermatologist about the changes occurred because there are different types of treatment for each patient. In most cases, a dermatologist will recommend to do a set of personalized tests that may reveal potential weaknesses of minerals, vitamins or hormonal disorders, depending on the medical history of each patient.

Hair fall – Genetic Etiology:
The genetic causes of hair loss can affect a large number of people, both women and men. Predisposition to baldness in men however, is higher. Androgenetic alopecia may increase progressively with age and may begin as early as in the age of 18. Particularly common in men, one of three men complaining about hair loss at the age of 30, women are also affected by this condition.

Hair fall – Non-Genetic Etiology:

If the hair loss is genetic or caused by various conditions, then for its regeneration, sufficient compliance should be maintained with such simple rules: Adequate rest and a balanced diet including eating foods rich in vitamins, minerals, iron and zinc, choosing cleaning, haircare and styling products suitable for the type of hair and protecting hair from harmful factors (sunlight, extreme temperatures). Also, the use of harmful maneuvers such as frequent dying and styling hair can lead to negative modification in the hair which may become severe with the age.

Other factors that strongly influence hair loss include infections that cause diseases with fever (such as herpes simplex), fungal skin infections, bacterial infections such as syphilis, are highly responsible for baldness and hair degradation by thinning hair.
It has also been scientifically proven that both the physical and mental injuries affect hair loss. When the body is subjected to mental (familial loss) and physical shocks (injury, surgery) this effect can be felt. Thus, after a period of three even four months from the manifestation of unpleasant event, hair follicles enter the premature telogen phase, leading to stagnating or excessive hair falling. Controlling the factors causing stress restores a normal hair growth.

Hair loss can also be influenced by certain drugs, as the body has the adverse reaction to certain substances contained in medicaments and it has been shown that some drugs issued on prescription can cause hair loss. Medications such as Isotretinoin and other medicines used to treat acne, some contraceptives having high content of hormones, lipid-lowering drugs, some substances used in medicines to treat depression (lithium, valproic acid), a number of drugs used in chemotherapy and some substances contained in antiepileptic medication may cause hair loss. Also, medicaments used as anti-malarial drugs (such as chloroquine), and anti-gout, drugs used to treat heart failure (such as captopril), some medications for Parkinson’s disease may also be factors that influence hair loss.

Finally, perhaps the best known factor influencing hair loss is age. Due to weakening of the immune system and existing hormonal disorders, hair becomes more fragile and more prone to breakage.

Hair fall – Hormonal reasons:

Other factors that could trigger hair loss that affect mostly women are hormonal disturbances. For women, hair loss can be evolved after birth, during starting or terminating oral contraceptives treatment, after abortion or during menopause and post-menopause. The body normally requires a minimum of three months to adjust to new hormone levels and the time in which these changes occurred after hormonal imbalances can cause hair loss, changes in body, mass fatigue, acne, etc.

Another common cause of hair loss hormone is hypothyroidism, which is manifested by decreased secretion of thyroid hormone that has an important influence on metabolism. Thus, when the body does not produce enough thyroid hormone, among other symptoms such as fatigue, brittle nails, cold skin and cold intolerance, hair loss also may occur.

Another important factor to note while discussing hair loss is the condition induced by hormonal disorder called polycystic ovary syndrome. It is commonly found in adolescents and women in the society in which we live, caused by a hormonal imbalance where the amount of male hormones produced by the ovaries is higher than normal values. Symptoms may include irregular menstruation, ovarian cysts, and excessive hair growth on face and hands and hair loss on the scalp.

Hair Loss – How can we stop it?
In cases of hair loss where the reason is not hereditary, genetic, it can be successfully treated. Thus, in cases of hair loss due to deficient care, hair fall can be recovered to normal by removing harmful factors (permanent drying, drying, styling, etc) and by a proper hair care. In cases of anemia, by correcting iron deficiency and treating the condition and in cases of hormonal disorders, appropriate treatment will have a beneficial impact on the health of the hair. The rigorous treatment of diseases that causing hair loss will alleviate this unpleasant condition. Also, in addition to a proper diet, rich in vitamins, proteins, minerals and trace elements, is very important sufficient rest and decreasing stress levels in the daily life.
